Empowering The Empowered

last night I had the privilege to sit down and chat with the cast and crew of a proposed new web-series entitled "Empowered". Although this series is not a horror related series I have always believed it is part of my job to help promote "artists" anyway I possibly can and so this week on the Terror Firma podcast you will hear that interview.

Jarrod Finn, the writer behind the project originally reached out to me via Facebook after we had chatted about film and writing in particular. As some of you may be aware I have a few writing credits to my name and love to chat the writing process and especially the rewrite experience and was more than happy to give Jarrod a few notes on his pilot script although those notes were very much "Studio Notes" at best.

Empowered Plot:

"Empowered" is a web series about five young female superheroes adjusting to their developing powers and the challenges they face as a threat to their very existence emerges.

Empowered will be directed by Kris Wilcox, a visual storyteller, creative writer and acting enthusiast. When we talked for the interview I got a real sense that strong 3 dimensional female characters and a story with substance was important to her as a film maker something we have very much have in common.

The Director of Photography for the project is Isaac Musgrave. Isaac specializes in award winning visual storytelling. He enjoys creating high-end videos for nonprofit and educational clients for marketing, event and fundraising needs. Isaac and Jarrod have previously worked together on another project and you can tell that they work well together from their interactions.

I spoke to two of the cast for Empowered in the form of Laura Bane and James R. Ling. I got the impression that both were very much enjoying the process so far and couldn't wait to finally get on the set and show the world what they could do in front of a camera.

As someone who has both had the pleasure of chatting with those involved and read this script I can 100% recommend getting behind this project to you all. If you love strong and diverse characters and a plot that concerns itself more with real world issues instead of soap opera drama bullshit like so many others these days then you should get out your wallet and contribute what you can. They have some great incentives and this is a project that for once will live up to expectations.

Announcements Regarding The YouTube Channel

A quick video outlining the major announcement that the Drew Carson show is coming back in May and heading to the Terror Firma YouTube channel. The Drew Carson Show amassed a big audience in a short period of time and was featured and talked about on many other podcasts and websites. It's host, our Editor In-Chief, Drew Carson got burned out recording it due to constant pressure from managers and publicists for him to interview people he didn't want to interview. He is now bringing the show back but on his terms and with only the guests he wants to interview so expect plenty of celebrities, weirdos and mayhem to be a weekly feature.

Plan 9 From Outer Space

Plan 9 from Outer Space (originally titled Grave Robbers from Outer Space) is a 1959 independently made American black-and-white science fiction-horror film that was only released theatrically in 1959 by Distributors Corporation of America (as Valiant Pictures). The film was written, produced, directed, and edited by Ed Wood and stars Gregory Walcott, Mona McKinnon, Tor Johnson, and Vampira. The film also posthumously bills Bela Lugosi as a star (silent footage of the actor had actually been shot by Wood for another, unfinished film just prior to Lugosi's death in August 1956).
The story line concerns extraterrestrials who are seeking to stop humanity from creating a doomsday weapon that could destroy the universe. The aliens implement "Plan 9", a scheme to resurrect the Earth's dead, referred to as "ghouls". By causing chaos, the aliens hope the crisis will force humanity to listen to them. If not, the aliens will then destroy mankind with armies of the undead.
Plan 9 from Outer Space played on television in relative obscurity until 1980, when authors Harry and Michael Medved dubbed the film the "worst movie ever made" in their book The Golden Turkey Awards. Wood and his film were posthumously given two Golden Turkey Awards for Worst Director Ever and Worst Film.

More Classic Cinema and Terror Firma Media productions coming soon to Terror Firma YouTube Channel

And.....We Are Back!!

So this bitch fair grinds to a halt when I'm away from the office! It looks like Nesta took an unscheduled break when I took mine and missed a post or 5. So to catch all of you guys up we had a new podcast episode on Friday which was a clip show featuring past guests, my thoughts on the podcast so far and some wee outtakes. You can listen to it on this handy wee player.

In other news there is a massive online petition trying to land Horror Icon Robert Englund the role of Dr Loomis in the latest Halloween redux. This would be great casting in my eyes for fans of 80s horror and for fans of greatly under appreciated actors.

In other website related news we are slowly but surely building our own YouTube channel which will feature a mix of Terror Firma Media related videos and classic films. So when you all get a chance head on over to Terror Firma on YouTube and subscribe so you don't miss out on any of that content.

The first Classic...Ahem... up on the channel is Ed Wood's masterpiece Plan From Outer Space. You can find it by following the link to the YouTube channel or by waiting a few minutes for the article that will be popping up on this very website.

We will also be making some big announcement this week regarding the channel so look out for them too.
