Another Halloween Reboot!

It seems like only yesterday (actually weeks ago) that I was mentioning all those remakes and reboots in development and again this week we found out about another one- Halloween- to be precise. We all remember the Rob Zombie remake which split audiences right down the middle. Some liked his penchant for brutality and gore and others were put off by his dialogue and filming style. Either way we can all agree that it was a pale imitation of the original. He didn't change enough to make it fully his own thing and he changed to much for it to be a homage.

Now we have another reboot in production and before you all get too excited and we all get behind our keyboards and cry havoc on social media lets look at the creative team behind this reboot.

John Carpenter is on board as an executive Producer which is great news and the film is also being produced by Jason Blum,  CEO of Blumhouse Productions as you all know Blumhouse are responsible for such series as Insidious, Paranormal Activity and The Purge so they have a strong pedigree with horror. No word yet on who will be directing this reboot but the rumor is that Blumhouse want James Wan (The Conjuring, Insidious, Saw) for the job but as he will be tied up directing Aquaman for Warners I don't think that rumour holds water, pardon the pun.

My guess would be one of these names:

Stiles White (Ouija)
Mike Flanagan (Oculus)
Robert Eggers (The Witch)
Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room)
Patrick Brice (Creep)

Do you think I'm right or way of the mark? Let me know in the comments below or on Facebook or Twitter.

When Development Hell Is Development Heaven

Right now the Terror Firma podcast is in its development stage. The podcast will be an extension of this website and will feature news, reviews and interviews with a who's who of Horror!

I ran a very successful podcast before, it was a variety interview show where I interviewed Hollywood people, sports stars, chefs, scientists, a convicted murderer and an ex member of a cult. It was fun but this is my passion project. I love the horror genre hell I write everything from horror screenplays through short stories and onto my novel -coughs- out next year.

What I want from you is for you to let me know who you want to be interviewed on this podcast and hit those names up on Social media saying you'd like to hear them featured. I'm looking to build a community here, a horror community where us fans can come together and share our passion for horror films, shows and novels.

I also want to hear what flicks you love and what ones you hate and why? Let me know your likes and dislikes in the comments, over on the Terror Firma FB group and by emailing me at drew.carson@terrorfirma.net.

What makes development hell development heaven? The struggles, the time, the effort that is going into bringing this podcast to you by January is so worth it because I love the genre, I love talking about it and I can't wait to start discussing it with you guys!

So check out the FB group and come join the discussion and maybe you too can feature on an upcoming episode of this site's Smiletime-Facebook show Slash-Cam which begins in December.

Another Day Another Remake

So it wouldn't be a Wednesday if we weren't hearing about yet another remake on the horizon. Hollywood seems lost in and endless cycle of sequels and remakes at the moment with the likes of Blair Witch,  Flatliners, Amityville Horror and the Mummy getting tarred with the remake brush while Hellraiser, Insidious, Jeepers Creepers and the Purge all getting another installment. The remake in production that I was originally talking about though is that
classic of German Expressionism era cinema Nosferatu.

The original 'Nosferatu' was made in 1922 and famously starred Max Shrek as Count Orlock- a character heavely inspired by Bram Stoker's Dracula. Nosferatu may have been a loose adaptation but an unauthorized adaptation it was nonetheless and the film was almost lost when courts decided to destroy the original reels of the finished film after Stoker's widow successfully sued on grounds of breach of copyright.

Attached so far to this project is the up and coming director of the Witch Robert Eggers who is rumoured to be directing a medieval knight epic prior to the Nosferatu remake so it is unclear just when production would begin.

Of course he is not the first director to remake this classic film. In 1979 Nosferatu the Vampyre was directed by the legendary Werner Herzog and starred the great Klaus Kinski as the iconic Count Orlok.

So are you excited by this news or are you dead done with remakes?

Who would you like to see in the role of Count Orlock?

Let us know in the comments or over on the Facebook Group.

Arrival Trailer + Thoughts

I will be going to see this film tonight (I know not strictly horror bare with me) and will have a review up early tomorrow morning.

But what I wanted to know was what are your thoughts on the SciFi- Horror genre?

Do you think this is an sub genre that needs to be explored more often due to classics such as Alien, The Thing, Scanners, The Fly, Re-Animator?

Or should they be avoided like the plague due to craptastic efforts such as Jason X, leprechaun in Space, Hellraiser: Bloodline, Orgy Of The Dead and Ssssssss?

American Werewolf In London Remake Bound

In the past decade there have been remakes of such horror classics as Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Black Christmas, The Hitcher, I Spit On Your Grave and Poltergeist and now it seems there is a remake of American Werewolf In London just around the corner. Now before you all stamp yer feet and begin a feverish internet campaign to stop this from happening I think it's vital to give the full facts.

Fact 1: This remake has been written and is going to be directed by Max Landis, son of the original director and horror icon John Landis.

Fact 2: It is being produced by the Walking Dead duo of Robert Kirkman and David Albert alongside John Landis himself.

That's the all the facts, erm all two of them. So What do you guys think is Max Landis the right man for the job, are you excited at the prospect of an American Werewolf in London remake does this all sound like a clusterfuck waiting to happen? Let us know in the comments below.
